【 摘 要 】

Failure of second-stage compressor rotorblade of a typical Russian fighter-class aero-engine has resulted in fewaccidents and many incidents. Apart from this, during manufacturingstage there was high rejection rate of this rotor blade in vibrationalfatigue tests. Metallurgical investigations of the failed rotor bladereveals that the mode of failure'is fatigue. The various reasons of thisfatigue crack are micro-inclusion, silica embedment and hydrogenattack. This was analysed from the three different approaches, namely,theoretical stress analysis, basic design and quality control. Tocontain the possibility of silica embedment and hydrogen attack, sandelectro-corrundum blasting and measure-replaced blasting have been takento control hydrogen embedment.
