【 摘 要 】

The study reports the variation inacoustic emission signals acquired during combustion of typicalpropellants with varying aluminium and ammonium perchlorate content. Itwas observed that when propellant strands having the same compositionundergo combustion under similar conditions, they produce consistentacoustic emission signals. To study the effect of variation of aluminiumcontent in the propellant composition on the acoustic emission producedduring combustion, the aluminium content was varied from 6 per cent to18 per cent in a HTPB-based composite propellant with 86 per cent solidloading. Experiments were carried out with propellant strands under thesame conditions for a comparative study. Acoustic emission parameters, such as peak amplitude, ring-down counts, average frequency, hits andenergy were studied as functions of time. Among these parameters, onlyenergy ring-down counts and frequency varied significantly withaluminium content. The effect of cumulative values of energy, frequencyand ring-down counts, the effect of burn rate and theoretical specificimpulse against the aluminium percentage variation, and the variation ofspecific impulse against acoustic energy can all be correlated. Theclear trend is indicative of possible prediction of propellantperformance parameter like specific impulse from acoustic emissionparameters.
