【 摘 要 】

Sea storms are natural phenomena whose economic, physical and social repercussions over Alicante’s coast between 1975 and 2005 have been analysed through the local press. Despite the widespread belief that the east coast of Spain is not affected by atmospheric situations generated in the Atlantic Ocean, there are some locations that are highly vulnerable to a west wind component, but not to an east wind one, due to the fact that they are well-protected thanks to the coastal configuration. The case of Benidorm is analysed as an example of this.
