【 摘 要 】

The present study aims to learn about the scientific production of health about hand hygiene performed by professionals and relate the knowledge and membership of the professional practice. It is a bibliographic review systematic, carried out in Virtual Health Library (VHL), LILACS and SCIELO, with the descriptors: health care personnel, hand washing and adherence. Were selected 13 articles during the period from 2002 to 2012, which were analyzed in categories. The inclusion criteria for the selection of the articles were: articles published in Portuguese and available in full text. The results of the research showed that the vast majority of professionals have theoretical knowledge and practical on hand hygiene. However, in the field of work we have opposite results, there is no expected adherence nor the correct technique of washing hands. For many reasons, the professionals still haven’t done this task. Thus, we conclude that the actions of education that has function of guiding and motivating these professionals should be discussed and implemented, in order to remedy all the doubts that still exist on the technique of hand hygiene.
