【 摘 要 】

Introduction: cutaneous leishmaniasis is one of the seven most prevalent tropical diseases worldwide and a health problem in endemic regions. Objectives: identify the plants traditionally used to treat leishmaniasis by indigenous Kofan doctors from the Putumayo Amazonian foothill in Colombia. Methods: an ethnobotanical and ethnopharmacological study was conducted of the medicinal plants used by Kofan indigenous doctors from the Colombian Amazonian foothill to treat cutaneous leishmaniasis. The data was supplemented by preliminary phytochemical screening and quantification of the minerals contained in plant ashes using atomic absorption spectrometry. Results: fourteen plant species were found from 10 families, the most representative of which was Rubiaceae. Acalypha diversifolia Jacq, Trema micrantha (L.) Blume, Copaifera officinalis (Jacq.) L. and Psichotria sp. are the plants most commonly used to treat the disease. Stems and leaves are the most widely used plant parts (42.8 %). They are used topically (69.2 %), as decoction (23 %) or ingested (3.84 %).Conclusions: identification was made of the traditional topical or oral use of various plant species whose activity could stem from their content of minerals or secondary metabolites. Host involvement could be more complex than just the result of the topical application of ashes or the ingestion of plant decoction.
