【 摘 要 】
References(10)The New World monkey Aotus spp. (night monkeys) are expectedfor use of valuable experimental animal with the close species of Saimirispp. (squirrel monkeys). Saimiri is known to show spontaneoushypercortisolemia, although few reports in Aotus. We compared basicstates of blood steroid hormones and histological structure of the adrenal glands in twomonkeys. Serum cortisol and ACTH levels were statistically lower in Aotusthan Saimiri. Conversely, Aotus adrenocortical areashowed significant enlargement, especially at the zona fasciculata. Electron microscopicobservation at Aotus fasciculata cells revealed notable accumulation oflarge lipid droplets and irregular shapes of the mitochondrial cristae. These resultssuggest potential differences in cellular activities for steroidogenesis betweenAotus and Saimiri and experimental usefulness inadrenocortical physiology and pathological models.
