【 摘 要 】
Introduction: In recent years there have come into existence the so-called "recreational drugs" which are related to a night entertainment context such as discotheques and bars, as well as the simultaneous presence of certain types of music; besides the increasing consumption, the number of reports about adverse effects related to its comsuption has also increased. Objective: To identify the demographic and "recreational substances" consumption characteristics of people attending night clubs in some of the municipalities of the Aburrá Valley. Methods: We designed a cross-sectional study. The population was made-up of adult males and females that attended night clubs in the Aburrá Valley. We used the SONAR 98 modified survey adapted to the researchers. Results: We studied 17 night clubs, 789 people participated, 57.7% were female, mean age was 23 years; with some labor activity (39%) and students (61%); the frequency for socioeconomic stratum 4 was (31%), 3 was (30%) and 5 (22%). Most of the surveyed population had consumed at some point of their lives alcohol (95%), cigarette (46%), cannabis (25%), amyl nitrite or "Popper" (10%), "designed drugs" such as amphetamines and methamphetamines (9%), sedatives and hypnotics (10%). Consumption first started early in life with the so-called social drugs: alcohol (14 years of age), and cigarette smoking (15 years of age). Conclusion: Unlike results shown worldwide, our study showed that recreational drugs consumption started with socially accepted substances such as alcohol and cigarette smoking, whereas designed drugs and other drugs have a more restricted use, and its consumption is left for older ages.
