Assim, o objetivo deste texto é expor os resultados conclusivos de uma pesquisa que teve como desígnio central definir o objetivo da educação para Locke, ao mesmo tempo em que analisa o conceito de formação contido na obra do filósofo inglês. O que avaliza esta perspectiva é o fato de que as proposituras educativas deste filósofo estão inseridas no debate que ele faz sobre a moral. Para chegar a este intento, há a análise dos manuscritos educacionais lockeanos, atentando ao fato de que ele, via educação, visa constituir um indivíduo que aja focado no êxito do seu projeto político. Dessa forma, o texto é dividido em três partes: na primeira parte, aborda-se o objetivo da educação; já na segunda, faz-se a exposição das linhas gerais do pensamento educacional de John Locke; na última parte, há a definição do que é formação para o filósofo. Para o êxito da pesquisa, utilizou-se o seguinte referencial teórico: a fonte primária foi extraída dos textos educacionais de Locke, nas secundárias, há outros manuscritos dos comentadores julgados como relevantes. Por fim, a leitura, a análise e a interpretação dos textos selecionados compuseram o procedimento metodológico empregado, tendo como paradigma a hermenêutica. AbstractFor Locke, education should concern about constituting a virtuous subject who enjoys his freedom and whose actions are buoyed by the correct usage of the reason. The target of this paper is to expose the conclusive results of a survey which had had the goal of education for Locke as a central plan, while it analyzes the concept of education in the English philosopher's project. What endorses the view is the fact that the philosopher’s educational propositions are embedded in the debate that he defends about moral. To reach this aim, there is the analysis of Lockeans educational manuscripts, attempting the fact that he, via education, aims to provide subject who acts focused on thepolitical project’s triumph.Thus, the text is divided into three parts: the first part addresses the goal of education, whereas the second part is the exposure of John Locke’s general educational thoughts. In the last part there is the definition of formation for the philosopher. For the success of the research, the following theoretical framework was used: the primary source was extracted from Locke’s educational texts, in the secondary, there are other reviewers of manuscripts judged as relevant. Finally, the reading, the analysis and the comprehension of the selected texts composed the methodological procedure used, having the hermeneutic as a paradigm.KeywordsEducation, formation, instruction,gentleman , Locke.
