【 摘 要 】
Introduction: The biocompatibility of a biomaterial depends on several factors, such as their surface characteristics, structural composition and the coatings used on them. Objective: To evaluate the biocompatibility of an obtained biomaterial from coconut shell. Methodology: The analysis of the biocompatibility of the biomaterial of coconut shell, was developed by in vitro assays using cultured cell line HOS from human osteosarcoma. The cells were cultured in RPMI 1640 supplemented with 10% fetal calf serum. Biomaterial samples were subjected to evaluate cell proliferation by microscopic counting in Neubauer's chamber at different times, different concentrations of bone powder allowed to evaluate the cytotoxicity by MTT colorimetric test and reading spectrophotometer. In adittion a test of cell adhesion and morphology at different times by epifluorescence microscopy. Results: The results indicate that the coconut shell doesn't favors cell proliferation, The cytotoxicity on biomaterial is by Grade 3 and moderate reactivity. Only seems cell adhesion to the test tube by 24 hour. Regarding the morphology is not possible to make a quantitative assessment because is only possible to visualize the nucleus of the cells Salud UIS 2011; 43(1): 86.
