【 摘 要 】
Residential adjustment to blindnesstraining programs operate on a schedule similar to a standard full-time workschedule. Occasionally, students and staff break from the routine schedule toventure out into the community for field classes, which contribute to theadjustment to blindness training process in many ways. There is a widespreadidea that learning comes only from labor rather than from leisure, butStructured Discovery training centers have found ways to incorporateexperiential learning into field classes. Informal structure enables morepersonally relevant learning. Students can build their skills and reconnectwith old pastimes while strengthening their sense of normality and connectionwith society. Field classes push students out of their comfort zones andrequire them to be flexible as they problem-solve. More advanced students haveopportunities to take on leadership roles and role model for newer students.Students and the public alike gain knowledge and resources from theirencounters.
