【 摘 要 】
Although diatoms are extensively used as bioindicators, positive interactions between species have rarely been investigated. In this study, the attachment of diatoms of the genus Amphora on benthic motile diatoms is described. Analysis of a river biofilm sample showed that the attached diatoms clearly select large sigmoid Nitzschia hosts. Examination of a regional database suggests that the attachment of Amphora copulata may be common in rivers, and that the preferred host is Nitzschia sigmoidea.
