CD5L,asolubleproteinbelongingtotheSRCRsuperfamily,isexpressedmostlybymacrophagesinlymphoidandinflamedtissues.TheexpressionofthisproteinistranscriptionallycontrolledbyLXRs,membersofthenuclearreceptorfamilythatplaymajorrolesinlipidhomeostasis.ResearchundertakenoverthelastdecadehasuncoveredcriticalrolesofCD5LasaPRRofbacterialandfungalcomponentsandinthecontrolofkeymechanismsininflammatoryresponses,withinvolvementinprocesses,suchasinfection,atherosclerosis,andcancer.Inthisreview,wesummarizethecurrentknowledgeofCD5L,itsrolesattheintersectionbetweenlipidhomeostasisandimmuneresponse,anditspotentialuseasadiagnosticbiomarkerinavarietyofdiseases,suchasTBandlivercirrhosis...
