Duringanimmuneresponse,CD8+Tcellscandifferentiateintomultipletypesofeffectorandmemorycellsthatareimportantcomponentsofimmunesurveillance.However,theirdysregulationhasbeenimplicatedininfectionwithvirusesorintracellularbacteriaandtumorigenesis.miRNAshavebeenidentifiedascrucialregulatorsofgeneexpression,andtheyperformthisfunctionbyrepressingspecifictargetgenesatthepost‐transcriptionallevel.MostmiRNAsexpressedinagivencelltypeservethefunctiontoimpedebroadlycell‐type‐inappropriategeneexpressionandpotentlydeepenapre‐existingdifferentiationprogram.ItisincreasinglyrecognizedthatmiRNAsdirectlymodulatetheconcentrationofmanyregulatoryproteinsthatarerequiredforthedevelopmentofimmunecellsinthethymusandtheirresponsesintheperiphery.ThisreviewoutlinesourcurrentunderstandingofthefunctionofmiRNAsinCD8+Tcellbiologyasitimpactsexpressionofprotein‐codinggenesinthecontextofproperdevelopment,infection,aswellasoncogenesis.Inaddition,weconcludewithaperspectiveonfuturechallengesandtheclinicalrelevanceofmiRNAbiology...
