Persistentviralinfection,suchasHCVinfection,istheresultoftheinabilityofthehostimmunesystemtomountasuccessfulantiviralresponse,aswellastheescapestrategiesdevisedbythevirus.Althougheachindividualcomponentofthehostimmunesystemplaysimportantrolesinantiviralimmunity,theinteractivenetworkofimmunecellsasawholeactsagainstthevirus.Theinnateimmunesystemformsthefirstlineofhostdefenseagainstviralinfection,andthus,viruseliminationorchronicHCVinfectionislinkedtothedirectoutcomeoftheinteractionsbetweenthevariousinnateimmunecellsandHCV.ByunderstandinghowthedistinctcomponentsoftheinnateimmunesystemfunctionbothindividuallyandcollectivelyduringHCVinfection,potentialtherapeutictargetscanbeidentifiedtoovercomeimmunedysfunctionandcontrolchronicviralinfection...
