Inflammatoryboweldiseaseisassociatedwithanumberofcomorbiditiesthatariseatextraintestinalsites,includingthelung.Pulmonarymanifestationsreportedininflammatoryboweldiseaseincludebronchiectasis,chronicbronchitisandimportantly,arangeofsubclinicalrespiratoryabnormalitiesthatareoftenoverlookedinroutineclinicalevaluation.WhereasevidenceforthepulmonarymanifestationsofInflammatoryboweldiseaseisincreasing,littleisknownabouttheimmunologicandphysiologicmechanismsregulatingcross‐talkbetweenthegutandlungduringdisease.ThisreviewexaminesreportedlunginvolvementinInflammatoryboweldiseaseanddiscussesthepossibleimmunepathwaysthatunderliepulmonarypathologies.Thesemechanismsincludedysfunctionalimmune‐cellhoming,systemicinflammation,andmicrobialdysbiosis;allofwhichmaycontributetoInflammatoryboweldisease‐inducedpulmonaryinflammation.ThesemechanismsarediscussedinthecontextofourcurrentknowledgeofthesharedmucosalimmunesystemandtheimmunologyofInflammatoryboweldisease...
