CD8+Tcellsplayacriticalroleintheclearanceofrespiratorypathogens.Thus,itissurprisingthatfunctionalinactivationoflungeffectorshasbeenobservedinmanymodelsofviralinfection.Currently,themoleculardefectresponsiblefortheshut‐offoffunctioninthesecellsisunknown.Inthepresentstudy,weaddressedthisquestionusingamodelofrespiratoryinfectionwiththeparamyxovirusSV5.NonfunctionalcellswerefoundtoexhibitdecreasesinSOCE,resultinginreducedNFAT1activation.Notably,functioncouldberestoredbytheprovisionofincreasedlevelsofextracellularcalcium.ThereducedabilitytomobilizecalciumwasassociatedwithreducedexpressionofORAI1,theCRACchannelsubunit.ThesefindingsrevealapreviouslyunknownmechanismforthenegativeregulationoffunctionineffectorTcells...
