【 摘 要 】
Kinetics and thermodynamic studies were carried out for the removal of heavy metals (Pb+2, Ni+2 and Cd+2) from aqueous solution by using Pennisetum glaucum. Surface morphology and elemental analysis were investigated with scanning electron microscope and energy dispersion X-ray spectroscope analysis. Functional group characteristics were found by a Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer. The identified groups as binding sites for metal ions were found to be carbonyl (C=O), hydroxyl (OH) and amide (NH). Process parameters such as biosorbent dose, contact time, solution pH, initial metal ion concentration and so on were also studied in batch mode. The optimum pH for the studied process was found to be 5–6. Equilibrium data obtained from the batch process fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm and the process followed pseudo second-order kinetics. P. glaucum was found to be economical, ecofriendly and an effective biosorbent in sequestration of heavy metals from water.
