【 摘 要 】

Introduction: The Nursing School of University de São Paulo SP (EEUSP) was established in 1942 and for 17 years it offered the internship for their students. This study aimed to identify the socio-demographic profile of eastern students formed who experienced the boarding system in the EEUSP, in that period of 1953 to 1970, and analyze the findings based on the literature on the history of nursing. Material and method: the data was collected after obtaining the successful evaluation of the Ethics in Research of the EEUSP, being used an instrument to collect data, previously developed, to identify the socio-economic status of subjects of investigation. Thus, data were obtained through the documents of entry of the former students at the Service of the Graduate of EEUSP. Results: The findings have enabled us to contextualize events and relevant social aspects of eastern culture, revealing the interface of these aspects with the professional choice and the story of these women. Discussions: The pedagogical project, the theoretical and practical preparation, the fields of training and the facilities of this system of the boarding school system possible to say that the school attracted the interest of many candidates for the nursing program at the time. This study helped to rescue the history of EEUSP, from the look of the documents that portrayed a little history of these former students, highlighting the effort of this institution for training nurses to work in different scenarios of professional practice.
