【 摘 要 】
This article takes as its starting point the anniversary of the revolution in 2017, and asserts that it will be historically interesting and politically relevant to obtain a better understanding of the revolutionary threat in Norway and Scandinavia. It looks back on research of the 1970s on the radicalism of the Norwegian labour movement during and after World War I, and presents views and ideas for renewed research on the topic. It aims to continue the comparative intention of Edvard Bull in his epochal article from 1922, and argues for Scandinavian-oriented and transnational historical research about the revolutionary challenge 1917–21. The article presents a variety of perspectives that require new research efforts, and it puts forward a theory of the reasons that developments in Norway were different from Sweden and Denmark. It emphasises the different democratic development in the three countries and, in that regard, the relatively weak integration of the Norwegian labour movement in the political system. It also comments upon the roles of the various party leaders.
