Antiurolithiatic activity of different plants extracts on zinc disc implantation induced urolithiasis

【 摘 要 】

The present study was conducted to evaluate traditional claim of the antiurolithiatic activity of five different plants i.e Plectranthus mollis, Didymocarpus pedicellata, Taraxacum officinale, Dendrophthoe elastic and Citrus medica Linn using zinc disc implantation induced urolithiatic model. The zinc disk was implanted in male albino rats followed by survival surgery and upon recovery specified treatment was given for the period of one month. During treatment period urine analysis was carried out every week while stone formation in the form of deposits on the zinc disc was assessed upon completion of one month. The study revealed that hydroalcoholic extract of Didymocarpus pedicellata at the dose of 300 mg/kg (P < 0.01), ethyl acetate extract of Taraxacum officinale at the dose of 300 mg/kg (P < 0.05), methanolic extract of Dendrophthoe elastic desr at the dose of 100 and 300 mg/kg (P < 0.01 and P < 0.001) and Citrus medica Linn at the dose of 300 mg/kg (P < 0.01) showed significant improvement in urinary parameters along with prevention of stone formation suggesting significant antiurolithiatic activity.
