Oxidation study of the synthetic sulfides molybdenite (MoS2) and covellite (CuS) by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans using respirometric experiments

【 摘 要 】

This paper analysesthe oxidation of covellite and molybdenite by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidansstrain LR using respirometric experiments. The results showed that both sulfideswere oxidized by A. ferrooxidans, however, the covellite oxidation wasmuch higher than molybdenite. Regarding the kinetic oxidation, the findingsrevealed that just molybdenite oxidation followed the classical Michaelis-Mentenkinetic. It is probably associated with the pathway which these sulfides reactto chemistry-bacterial attack, what is influenced by its electronic structures.Besides, experiments conducted in the presence of Fe3+ did not indicatealterations in molybdenite oxidation. Thus, ferric ions seem not to be essentialto the sulfide oxidations.
