【 摘 要 】
This paper describesthe antioxidant effects of thirteen phenolic compounds isolated from plantsof the genus Lychnophora. Two assays were performed to evaluate theseeffects: a cellular test that measured the luminol-enhanced chemiluminescenceproduced by neutrophils stimulated with opsonized zymosan and a cell-free testinvolving horseradish peroxidase-H2O2-luminol. In bothassays, the antioxidant activity of the phenolic compounds was dependent ontheir concentration and chemical structure. Our results suggest that the abilityof phenolic compounds from Lychnophora species to scavenge and inhibitthe generation of ROS may be a mechanism underlying the anti-inflammatory activityof extracts from Lychnophora spp.
