AirwayMΦandDCsareimportantcomponentsofinnatehostdefenseandcanplayacriticalroleinlimitingtheseverityofinfluenzavirusinfection.Althoughithasbeenwellestablishedthatcell‐surfaceSAactsasaprimaryattachmentreceptorforIAV,theparticularreceptor(s)orcoreceptor(s)thatmediateIAVentryintoanycell,includingMΦandDC,havenotbeenclearlydefined.IdentifyingwhichreceptorsareinvolvedinattachmentandentryofIAVintoimmunecellsmayhaveimportantimplicationsinregardtounderstandingIAVtropismandpathogenesis.RecentevidencesuggeststhatspecializedreceptorsonMΦandDCs,namelyCLRs,canactascaptureand/orentryreceptorsformanyviralpathogens,includingIAV.Herein,wereviewtheearlystagesofinfectionofMΦandDCbyIAV.Specifically,weexaminethepotentialroleofCLRsexpressedonMΦandDCtoactasattachmentand/orentryreceptorsforIAV...
