【 摘 要 】
The article presents the results of numerical analyses used to choose a construction solution for an exhaust system of a combustion engine in a Formula Student class vehicle. Geometrical parameters of the exhaust system have a major influence on the process of exhaust gases discharge and, consequently, the entire charge exchange process and the operation parameters of an internal combustion engine. Computations were made by analysing various lengths and diameters of individual 4-2-1 exhaust manifold segments. As a result, an optimal solution was chosen based on the engine's volumetric efficiency curve shape and the possibility of installing the exhaust system in the vehicle. For the chosen system, an analysis was carried out to investigate pressure changes in the exhaust manifold pipe and the influence of pressure pulses that occur there on the gases flow through the inlet and exhaust valves. An exhaust system cannot be treated as a separate one during its optimization because for the correct course of charge exchange process proper interaction of the intake, timing, and exhaust system is necessary.
