【 摘 要 】

We quantify how it is difficult to describe an alpha(α)-cluster state with single-particle harmonic-oscillator (HO) bases in the low-lying16O states by counting the number of HO quanta of12C+n+n+p+p five-body wave functions. We also discuss how many HO quanta are needed for describing a localized α cluster near the nuclear surface towards understanding of the shell and cluster coexistence in heavier nuclei.
