This paper presents ongoing work on a modular theory for contextual reasoning and the formalization of context. We introduce a two-tiered knowledge representation formalism that grounds an agent's pre-symbolic understanding of the world in a state space, and go on to develop a notion of concept spaces as its logical abstraction. After discussing some advantages of this model, we show how it accounts quite naturally for certain high-level forms of context-dependent inference.
