【 摘 要 】

The GALEN upper ontology has been used over a period of more than a decade for representing biomedical concepts including anatomy, drugs,diseases, signs and symptoms.A reconstruction of the key features of theontology in OWL-DL is presented along with the underlying principles – that“all distinctions should make a difference”, that “nonessential distinctions should be deferred”, and that “the ontology should be ‘normalized’”.
