This paper is based on a five-day workshop on “Atomicity in System Design and Execution” that took place in Schloss Dagstuhl in Germany [5] in April 2004 and was attended by 32 people from different scientific communities.1 The participants included researchers from the four areas of●database and transaction processing systems,●fault tolerance and dependable systems,●formal methods for system design and correctness reasoning,and●to a smaller extent, hardware architecture and programming languages.[first paragraph]
